HSBC 7s 2018- Assistant Referee Training Squad
As part of the HSBC 7s leg in Singapore, the Society will be providing the Assistant Referees (ARs) and In-goal Judges (IGs) for the tournament. Officiating at the biggest 7s tournament in the world comes with a huge responsibility to deliver an exceptional performance. At previous tournaments, the Society has been credited by World Rugby as having a highly committed and professional crew, and one that must be maintained for this year’s event.
A select group of our National Panel referees have been training together for the past month to test their ability to perform at the expected standard. A particular thanks to Orange Theory Fitness, who partnered with the Society to assist in delivering a training programme that would provide these referees with the highest quality testing conditions.
The training programme included a range of sessions to promote team work, decision making under pressure and technical ability. Fitness is always a top criteria, and the members have been pushing themselves to their limits to ensure that they are physically and mentally ready for the event.
We wish all those selected for the tournament the very best of luck in their selection process. More updates to follow on the HSBC 7s Singapore in next month’s newsletter.
Regional Referee Workshops and World Rugby Courses
The HSBC 7s 2018 ‘Super Week’ is shaping up to have an extensive list of carnivals and workshops taking place throughout the city. Singapore Rugby has always been committed to supporting the development of referees, not only in Singapore but across Asia. At the 2017 event, Singapore Rugby held a Regional Sevens Referee Training Camp, at which 18 participants from across Asia attended with a goal of developing as Match Officials. As a result of this camp, a number of those who attended have gone on to be selected for the Asia Rugby Panel.
The success of this camp has meant that Singapore Rugby will once again host the camp in the lead up to the 2018 HSBC 7s. The reputation of the camp has grown and this year, 26 participants will attend in a hope of improving their ability to officiate at a higher standard. In addition to the Regional Training Camp, Singapore Rugby will also be holding a World Rugby Match Commissioners and Citing Commissioners course, with all participants getting to enjoy top quality rugby during the weekend as part of the package.
In total, an anticipated 50 participants representing 18 different Unions will be in attendance at the 2018 workshop. With the support of World Rugby and Asia Rugby, the events taking place during Super Week further demonstrate Singapore Rugby’s efforts to assist the development of the game globally.
