Bad weather in Week 2 had caused all games to be postponed except for the Bedok Kings v Bucks games at turf city.

Tensions between Bedok Kings and Bucks hit a fever pitch as both their Championship and Premiership sides clashed. The Championship sides kicked off with the heavens looking downcast, but there was nothing to indicate that this dampened the spirits of either team. In the first 15 minutes, the Bucks controlled territory and ball possession, but every time they neared the opposition try line they would lose the pill through avoidable knock-ons. In the end, a disciplined Kings defence repelled these efforts, and turned the tables on Bucks. A 60m try from winger Derek Song left the Bucks reeling, before Low Feng Hua sneaked a tap-and-go score after butchering two tries previously. At the half time, lightning was rampant and the referee concluded the game with Kings leading 16-0.

Fortunately, the weather cleared up in time for the Premiership match. Ignoring the sting of an early converted Kings penalty through Ross Candido, the Bucks rallied around flanker Brice to power over the try line from a lineout 15 m out. However, two long-range tries from Song Yu and Ho Yi Shu helped Kings claw back to an 18-10 lead at the half time mark. In the end, the Bucks Forwards held the key in this tense contest. With 8-man Alex Cook leading the charge, they capitalised on a Kings yellow card to score two tries to seal the game 24-18 to see off a spirited Kings side.

Fresh from last weekend’s bad weather break, most clubs will be raring to go this weekend. Both Oldham Championship teams will be up against Wanderers and Blacks at Yio Chu Kang Stadium while SCC 1st and SCC Tankards will host the Bedok Kings family at Dempsey.
