          Rugby Ready Course for Teachers 
          For: Teachers with little or no rugby knowledge
          Prerequisites: None

          For: Students, Parents with little or no rugby knowledge
          Prerequisites: None
          Duration: 3 hours
          Fee: $20

          Singapore Rugby Union will be conducting a Rugby Ready session for all schools participating in the Primary Schools Zonal Competition 2012.
            • Rugby Ready is compulsory for all players involved in the zonal competition.
            • The Rugby Ready course is to educate, aid and support players, coaches, match officials and Unions on the importance of sufficient preparation for training and playing in order for Rugby to be played and enjoyed while reducing the risk of serious injury. It also represents a set of core values- Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline and Respect.

          Outline:
          Rugby Ready Programme aims to support individual coaches, referees, players and union in preparing to play the game and with good practice models for physical conditioning, technique, injury prevention and injury management. It is a compulsory minimum requirement in Singapore for every coach participating in Rugby where there is a tackling component. The Rugby Ready is mandatory requiring qualification every three years.

          For First timer attending the Coaching Course:

          Rugby Ready is included to the NCAP Level 1 Coaching

          For those coaches attending Level 2 Coaching course
          • a) One of the prerequisite to the course is valid Rugby Ready
          • b) After fulfil the Level 2 accreditation criteria, Rugby Ready will be renewed for 3 years
          1) Types of Rugby Ready Programme

          Rugby Ready course
          The face to face course ensures that all coaches are equip with correct and best practise techniques to develop confidence in players.

          2) Renewal of Rugby Ready (Re-accreditation course)

          The Rugby Ready Certificate expiry together with the Coaching certificate, you are require to attend Rugby Ready course.

          3) Rugby Ready Online

          There is a online resource that coaches, players and any stakeholders can register to use for free. With the emphasis of strength and safety, the self-assessment programmes include 17 good-practice modules covering:
          • Match preparation and Physical conditioning
          • Correct technique
          • Injury prevention and management

          The purpose of this introductory course is to enable coaches to acquire basic skills so that players new to the game learn to play in safe, enjoyable competition. Prerequisite: Nil Duration: 10 hours (1 ½days) Assessment:
          For accreditation : Achievement of satisfactory 10 minutes practical assessment; achievement of 80% in open book tests; provision of certificate for full attendance by IRB; Provision of certificate for NCAP SSC Technical/thoery Level 1 by Singapore Sports Council. Course details:
          The course focuses on the following aspects of the game:
          • Playing charter and the principles of rugby
          • Individual core skills and safety in contact 
          • Practice and planning
          • Risk Management and ethics
          • Ready Rugby
          • Fitness
          • Role of the coach
          • Modified rugby game
          • Laws
          • Application of pre designed practice sessions

          IRB Coaching Level 2 
          For: Those interested in coaching age grade/adult players
          Prerequisites:  IRB L1 Coaching Certification
          Duration: 3 days

          Outline:
          The purpose of this course is to enable coaches to develop skills for coaching age grade and adult players. Prerequisite: Minimum 3 years playing experience in NRC league or equivalent Duration: 18 hours (2 ½ days) (+ delivery of 12 sessions) Assessment: There are two options: 1. Provision of certificate for full attendance
          2. For accreditation: attendance and participation in all modules; achievement of satisfactory practical assessment; achievement of 80% in open book tests; submission of a 12 week coaching diary. Once fulfilled: Provision of certificate for completion by IRB and Singapore Sports Council. Course details:
          The course focuses on the following aspects of the game:
          • Principles of Attack and Defense
          • Key factor analysis of individual, mini, sub-unit and unit skills
          • Relationship between key factor analysis and the principles of attack and defense
          • Practice and planning
          • Risk Management and ethics
          • Revision of Ready Rugby
          • Fitness
          • Role of the coach
          • Communication
          • Child and adolescent growth and development
          • Laws of the game

          The NCAP Theory courses offer three (3) levels of certification to cater to the needs of coaches at various levels. Fundamental principles of coaching are taught to allow coaches to apply these coaching theories in practice.

          NCAP Level 1 theory has been integrated into the NCAP Technical course and will be conducted by SRU certified trainers. This integration commenced from 19th June 2010.

          Level 1 theory is designed to help coaches understand the various approaches to coaching. Basic Coaching skills and sports science are introduced and coaches are taught to design a safe, enjoyable and challenging practice. Upon completing the course, coaches will be certified to coach  beginner sports person. 

          Level 2 theory is designed to help coaches prepare athletes for competition. The process of developing training programmes to prepare athletes in the physical, psychological, technical and tactical domains is taught. Upon completing the course, coaches will be certified to coach at intermediate sports competition levels organised by clubs and schools. The Level 2 Theory course will conduct by Singapore Sports Council.

          Level 3 theory is designed to help coaches apply the principles of planning an annual training and competition programme for elite athletes and teams, after acquiring advanced level knowledge in sports science. Upon completing the course, coaches will be certified to coach at the advanced sports competition level involving local professional clubs and national teams. Level 2 Theory course will conduct by Singapore Sports Council.

          A participant may apply for exemption to take the NCAP Theory course   if he/she has obtained an equivalent form of academic qualification or coaching theory/principles certification from other institution/agencies.

          Application of NCAP Full Certification

          a) Full NCAP Certification equivalent to a NCAP Theory certificate and NCAP Technical certificate combined.
          b) Minimum age of 18 and above
          c) Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate

          The application to enter the NROC is subject to the endorsement of the SR and the SSC.

          There will be an accreditation policy to allow coaches with prior learning to seek exemption from attending the NCAP Technical Course .

          Recognition of prior learning refers to the recognition given to coach who has relevant qualification acquired elsewhere and is required by SR for Accreditation to a particular level of the NCAP Technical Course.

          Once successful, SR will be issuing the NCAP Technical Certificate in order for the coach to coach in Singapore. No IRB Coaching Certificate will be issued.

          Accreditation Period for the NCAP Technical Certification (Rugby):

          Upon bring awarded an accreditation at any level, the accreditation will be valid for a period of 3 years. The accreditation will expire on the 31 December 3 years after the year in which the accreditation is gained

          All coaches who attended the coaching course in 2007 and before, the accreditation will expiry on the 30th June 2011.

          Coaches are re-new the accreditation by fulfilling the re-accreditation criteria.

          1) For an Accreditation to be renewed at the end of 3 years period the coaches must comply with the following:
          • a) Rugby Ready compliance by attending a Rugby Ready course (2.5 hours);
          • b) Coaching:
          • For Level 1: Actively involved in at least one of the 3 years
          • (means demonstrate a minimum of 20 hours of coaching in one of the year )
          • For Level 2: Actively involved in at least 2 of the 3 years
          • (means demonstrate a minimum of 30 hours of coaching in each of the 2 of the 3 years)
          • For Level 3: Actively involved in at least 2 of the 3 years
          • (means demonstrate a minimum of 40 hours of coaching in each of the 2 of the 3 years)
          • c) Comply to the Code of Conduct

          2) Coaches who do not comply with the above will need to successfully complete the following:

          For Level 1:
          • a. Re-Attend a level 1 Coaching course
          For Level 2:
          • a. Re-Attend a level 2 Coaching course include Rugby Ready
          • b. Will be accredited to Level 1 (Attend a Rugby Ready course )
          For Level 3:
          • a. Re-attend a Level 3 coaching course
          • b. Will be accredited to Level 2 (Attend a Rugby Ready course)

          3) Coaches who do not fulfilled 1 and 2:
          Coaching status will be in-active. Coaches are required to re-attend coaching course in future.
