The newly-elected Management Committee of the Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) announced today its key priorities for 2017/18 following its first meeting last week. Addressing the meeting, incoming SRU President, Mr Terence Khoo, reiterated his team’s vision to take Singapore rugby to new heights through a smooth integration of roles and responsibilities, and by ensuring the continuity of goals set by the previous Management Committee.

“The Management Committee was unanimous in its decision making and I am pleased in the maturity and unity in moving forward towards a common goal” noted Mr Khoo. “The inclusion of the entire rugby ecosystem – which includes players, coaches, match officials, clubs and fans – is critical and we want to have everyone play their part” he added.

To get the rugby community engaged, six Commissions have been formed by the SRU, with an immediate focus on the areas of National Teams, Rugby Development and Marketing. The other areas are Competitions, Capabilities, and Finance. Each Commission will be co-chaired by members of the SRU Management Committee and will invite representatives from the community to contribute to the Commissions’ work.

A key focus of SRU going forward will be to foster a player-focused environment, with the aim of creating the best platform for all national teams to excel. Vice President Mr Martin Williams, one of the highest capped (36) national players with a wealth of experience on and off the field will lead the National Teams Commission.

The work of the Rugby Development commission will be driven by Assistant Honorary Secretary, Mr Shafiq Zulazmi, and Management Committee member, Mr Adrian Lee. The Rugby Development Commission is tasked with the growth of participation of rugby at the grassroots – that is, in schools and clubs.

SRU President, Mr Terence Khoo and Management Committee member, Mr David Lim will co-chair the Marketing commission. This will focus on marketing, communications, and relations with international stakeholders.
