The SRU National Women’s League kicks off this weekend. Defending Champions Blacks RFC will be gunning for a back to back title with Bucks, Skyllas and NTU prowling behind. The league is increased to 5 teams with the addition of Bedok Kings Skyllas 2. Here is the preview of each team in the competition.

Blacks RFC

Champions of last year’s edition of the Women’s 15s Championship, Blacks RFC Women’s will strive to repeat history and rise to the top once more. With a squad that features National 7s Team Captain, Alvinia Owyong and other National representatives in the likes of Samantha Teo and Chan Jia Yu, Blacks RFC will remain as title favourites and will be a force to be reckoned with. Can Blacks RFC Women’s defend their crown and win back to back title?

Bucks RFC

Bucks RFC made it into the finals last year but narrowly missed out on the title by a mere 2 points. The club is laced with physically strong and aggressive players that will put the tightest defence line to the test. Coached by Singapore U15 Head Coach Albert, the team in green and red will not let the opportunity of winning the title slip again if given a second chance.

Bedok Kings Skyllas 1&2

After a successful year of recruitment, Bedok Kings Skyllas is fielding not just one but TWO teams this season. Skyllas will be riding on their success in the recent Women’s Club 10s to give them a boost in the 2016/17 league. Captained by Esther Phua, Skyllas 1 is a discipline team with several players from the national 15s set up and will be striving to improve their standings from last year. Skyllas 2 will also be an exciting team to watch out for with a handful of players making their 15s debut and eager to break into the Singapore Women’s Rugby team.

NTU

“Fierce yet feminine”, the team of girls from National Technological University (NTU) will not go down without a fight. As one of the younger teams, NTU will surely rely on their speed and aggression to break their more experienced opponents. This year would be their third 15s season since joining the league and the players are only getting better and hungrier for success.
