SINGAPORE RUGBY SEVENS SERIES



Round One of the first ever Singapore Rugby Sevens Series kicks off this weekend at Bishan Stadium with a 8 team men's and 7 team women's tournament and a few schools games thrown in for good measure. The competition takes place over two days, 18th and 19th September and the draw for pools and game times will appear in next week's e zine. There will be food and refreshments available at the stadium with Pastamania, partnering up with Singapore Rugby for the first time, and a Guinness and soft drinks bar as well. Come along and enjoy the games from the luxurious stand at Bishan - entry is free.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR OF RUGBY

Des Thornton joined the Singapore Rugby Union in September 2010 as the Technical Director of Rugby.

Des has a background in education having worked in the University sector for eighteen years both as an academic and ultimately as a Chief Information Officer. He is an accredited Australian Rugby Union L3 coach and successfully coached the Western Australian for six years winning the Telstra Australian Rugby Shield, the highest level of amateur Rugby in Australia, on a number of occasions. He has also coached at junior, first XV in schools and at senior club level over a period of some forty years.
